$5 Trillion, 25 Million Jobs

Farm, Labor and Democratic Support for the NIB Grows

Feb 16, 2021
In recent days, resolutions and letters of support have been received from Alaska Democrats, New Mexico Labor, and the National Latino Farmers and Ranchers Trade Association.

On February 6, the Alaska Democratic State Central Committee adopted a resolution in support of HR 6422, which includes the following: “Whereas, Alaska’s over 280 rural communities, many of which have no centralized water or wastewater system, received an ASCE grade of C in 2017. These communities need about $1.5 billion for water and wastewater systems. The Port of Alaska in Anchorage, which receives 85% of all consumer goods entering the state, is unable to adequately fund a needed modernization. The lack of a deep-water Arctic port is a barrier to providing necessary regional safety and security…”

The resolution was transmitted to the President and all members of the Alaska delegation in Washington, as well as other elected officials.

On February 5, the Central New Mexico Labor Council issued a letter to members of Congress, also urging the adoption of HR 6422. That letter stresses the dangerous condition of the power grid and transmission systems, as well as the devastation to the economy from the pandemic as amongst the reasons for adopting the National Infrastructure Bank.

Also relevant to New Mexico, the National Latino Farmers and Ranchers Trade Association, which has considerable support in New Mexico, issued a letter to the New Mexico  state legislature, urging the adoption of State Senate Memorial 2. That bill calls upon the US Congress to support the National Infrastructure Bank.
