On April 27, 2023, Public Banking Institute Chair Ellen Brown, was joined by Executive Director of “In the Public Interest” Donald Cohen, and Professor Andrew Winnick, Ph.D. former Professor of Economics and Statistics, Cal State Los Angeles for a timely NIB national Zoom Town Hall, “How to Build the Nation: National Banking vs. Privatization.”

While the Federal Reserve is forecasting recession over the next several months, with many experts believing that some sections of the nation are already in recession, the Congress is embroiled in a destructive debate on the debt ceiling, and Speaker Kevin McCarthy has unveiled a plan for additional pain and suffering. 

Only the Coalition for a National Infrastructure Bank and allies are leading the campaign to reverse this recession and launch a bold economic recovery. The April 27^th Town Hall presents the stark contrast between National Banking and the corrosive impact of privatization. 

The case against privatization was outlined by Donald Cohen, Executive Director of “In the Public Interest” and the co-author of “The Privatization of Everything” This book is a widely-praised authoritative expose of the destructive impact that privatization has had and could have on the economy. Bad actors in the Congress and local government have been peddling “enticing” privatization schemes for the past several years which, in most cases, have resulted in disaster. 

Alphecca Muttardy, professional economist, Ellen Brown, author of “Web of Debt” and Dr. Andrew Winnick, former Professor of Economics at Cal State Los Angeles critiqued the oncoming recession and presented the alternative of Public Banking and a National Infrastructure Bank. 

Legislators Sen. Bill Tallman (NM) and Rep. Sean Brennan (OH) presented their reasons why they are among the many elected officials leading the campaign to get Congress to implement the National Infrastructure Bank post-haste.
