Public Bank Chair Ellen Brown, New Jersey Assemblyman Don Guardian, and Cornell Law Professor Robert Hockett led a feisty discussion on a December 15 National NIB Zoom Town Hall to halt the economic downturn and promote a Hamiltonian industrial recovery.
NIB senior economist Alphecca Muttardy kicked off the discussion with an update on the current economic crisis and the fight on inflation. On the one hand, Americans want to celebrate the joy of the holidays, and, of course, keep their jobs. Instead, we are faced with an onrushing recession forced on us by Jay “Ebenezer Scrooge” Powell and his pals. What Charles Dickens said of Scrooge could easily be said of Powell, and Larry Summers.
The Coalition for a National Infrastructure Bank (NIB), and our allies in and out of government, have one answer to Powell: “Bah, Humbug!”
The National Infrastructure Bank, as embodied in HR3339, was presented as the only alternative to this insanity, as it will create 25 million new high-wage jobs and build our infrastructure and spark an industrial recovery. The NIB will “make America make again.”
In the course of the discussion, national activists reported on meetings that they participated in over the last several weeks with Congressional offices and other elected officials which are resulting in more co-sponsors to HR3339.
In addition, reports were given on resolutions that have recently passed urging Congress to support HR3339, including the Los Angeles City Council, the National Asian Pacific American Caucus of State Legislators, the Council of State Governments-East and many more.
