On September 16, the Mississippi Free Press and the Starkville Daily News published an Op-Ed issued by the Coalition for a National Infrastructure Bank, ‘‘The Last Will Be First’: National Infrastructure Bank’s Plan for Jackson’s Failed Water System.” The Op-Ed calls for using a National Infrastructure Bank, as proposed in Congressional bill, HR3339, to address the water crisis in Jackson and the overall infrastructure crisis in the state. It is signed by two dozen elected officials from Mississippi and across the country.
HR3339 would create a $5 trillion public bank, easily able to finance all the projects starting with repairing and replacing the failed Jackson system in its entirety. The failure of the Jackson water system is just the latest horrible, and unnecessary, example of what is needed throughout the country.
In addition to the Mississippi Free Press, the Op-Ed has been picked up by four other news media and more are expected this week.
